SOME WORKED EXAMPLES RELATING TO LECTURE 4

What you need to know

You need to be able to obtain (from Maxwell’s eqns.) the Continuity Equation and demonstrate that it constitutes a statement of charge conservation.

You must be able to obtain the Wave Equations for E and B from the free space form of Maxwell’s eqns. and show how the permittivity and permeability of free space are related to the velocity of EM waves.

You need to know the relative orientations of E, B and k and how the magnitudes of E and B are related.
